Show information:
Dark Road is a haunting and thought-provoking play that explores how ordinary people can become complicit in extraordinary evil. Set during and after World War II, it follows Greta, a former guard at the Ravensbrück concentration camp, and a journalist who is interviewing her. Through their tense conversation, Greta recounts how she became a guard under the Nazi regime—initially out of the need to provide for his sister Lise—but as time goes by, Greta lost sight of right and wrong. She was drawn into the cruelty and the moral corruption.
As the story unfolds through flashbacks and interrogations, Greta’s memories reveal the gradual erosion of her conscience and the devastating consequences of her choices. Dealing with themes of power, guilt, denial, and the human capacity for both good and evil, Dark Road challenges audiences to confront how darkness can grow from seemingly small decisions.
Ultimately, Dark Road is a chilling reminder that the line between right and wrong can blur dangerously when obedience and ambition outweigh compassion.
Suggested for ages 12 and up.
